Welcome to Idlewilde Event Center at Indian Springs State Park

Conveniently located near I-75 in middle Georgia, Indian Springs is one of the oldest state parks in the United States and a popular spot for outdoor recreation.

Idlewilde Event Center at Indian Springs State Park is available for reservations. The name is derived from the majestic house on the property that serves as the park office and visitor center; and is on the National Historic Register. With another nod to past, the individual rooms in the center are even named after the historic hotels that once thrived in the village of Indian Springs. Idlewilde has 20,000 square feet of event space including a massive lake side porch with beautiful views of the water. With a capacity of 500 people, Idlewilde can accommodate a variety of events, from birthday parties and family reunions, to weddings and corporate retreats. Additional features include a catering kitchen and audio visual capabilities in every room.

Discovering Wormsloe, Grades K-12

Discover the vibrant history of Colonial Georgia at Wormsloe State Historic Site. Wormsloe was once the colonial estate of Noble Jones, who sailed to America in 1733 with General James Oglethorpe and 114 others to establish the colony of Georgia.

A field trip visit includes a guided tour of the Interpretive Trail, where students will see the ruins of Noble Jones’s original fortified home, the family burial site, and an Indigenous American shell midden.

Groups can further customize this experience by adding the following activities:

  • A tour of the Colonial Life Area, which features a working blacksmithing forge and a to-scale replica of a traditional wattle-and-daub home
  • Colonial Games, which may include graces, nine-pins, and double ball (recommended for students of all ages)
  • Colonial Cricket (recommended for 4th grade and up)

The small museum, which houses artifacts excavated from the ruins, is also available for groups to explore.

Program Length: 1 - 1.5 Hours

Program Cost: $5.25 per student / $9.75 per chaperone

Program Add-ons: $1.00 per visitor to add the Colonial Life Experience; $1.00 per visitor to add a Recreational Experience (Colonial Games or Cricket); $1.50 per visitor for a Combo Package including Colonial Life and Recreation

Ranger-Led FAQ:

Q: What comes included with the program cost?
A: Admission to Wormsloe State Historic Site, which includes the Live Oak Avenue, a 0.8 mile Interpretive Trail, 3 additional miles of nature trails, a museum, gift shop, restrooms, and picnic area. Program costs also include guided interpretation of Noble Jones’s original fortified home, guided interpretation of the Colonial Life Area (if applicable), and recreational experiences (if applicable).

Q: How do these programs relate to what I am teaching?
A: Each of these programs were designed to align specifically around the grade-specific standards outlined by Georgia’s Standards of Excellence.

Q: Is there a cost or limit for chaperones?
A: There is no limit for the number of chaperones that can come on a ranger-led program.

Q: How early in advance do I need to book our program?
A: We require at least 30 days’ notice to book any ranger-led programs. In order to book your ranger-led program, call (912)353-3023 or email wormsloe.shs@dnr.ga.gov.

Self-Guided Explorations

Educators and group leaders have the opportunity to experience Wormsloe State Historic Site on a self-guided basis. The group rate for admission is $9.75 / per adult and $5.25 / per student (to qualify for the group rate, admission must be paid as one transaction). Groups are welcome to explore the museum, the 0.8 mile Interpretive Trail, and the 3-mile battery trail system and to enjoy the picnic area and gift shop.
